We hope you are enjoying a well-deserved summer vacation! We cannot wait to hear about your time away when we return on Monday, August 11th for the 1st day of August Orientation.
We hope you are enjoying a well-deserved summer vacation! We cannot wait to hear about your time away when we return on Monday, August 11th for the 1st day of August Orientation.
Our DC Prep Leadership Teams have been hard at work this summer planning for SY25-26. Our goals and mission remain rigorous – our students deserve to leave our doors as 8th graders prepared to thrive in the high school of their choice that will put them on the path to the college and career of their choice. Our DC Prep team is comprised of dedicated and smart people and we are excited to embark on this year together!

During August Orientation we will have a lot to accomplish and are incredibly excited about the professional development, collaborative planning, and relationship building that that we will engage in over these ten days. One piece of feedback we’ve heard is to please compile any online trainings into one place because most teachers said that they would prefer to spend their time in-person doing things you can only do in-person (building relationships with co-teachers, meetings with your coach, setting up your classroom, etc). This way, you can decide what time works best for you to complete these trainings before the 1st day of school.

The tasks below are required based on legislation from DC’s Office of the State Superintendent of Education (OSSE) and DC Prep is legally required to report the names of staff members who complete specific trainings. For this reason, it is important to fill out the Onboarding Task Tracking Form for each task as you complete it

Required Tasks for Returning Staff
Required Tasks for Returning Staff
The tasks below are required based on legislation from DC’s Office of the State Superintendent of Education (OSSE) and DC Prep is legally required to report the names of staff members who complete specific trainings. For this reason, it is important to fill out the Onboarding Task Tracking Form for each task as you complete it
Task 1: Sexual Misconduct Reporting (Estimated time to complete = 25 min. Training is required prior to the first day of school). Purpose of training is to to help DC Prep staff understand the School Safety Omnibus Act and DC Prep practices designed to adhere to all elements of the act and ensure the safety of our school community including preventing & addressing sexual abuse and misconduct by staff, preventing & addressing child abuse, and preventing & addressing student-on-student sexual harassment. Required by DC Law under Student Safety Omnibus Act.
*Required every 2 years - if you did not complete last year, you must complete for SY25/26*
Task 2: Student Mental Health and Safety Training (Estimated time to complete = 60- 120 minutes. Training is required by 1st day of school). Purpose of training is to recognize signs of psychological distress, manage conversations with students to build resilience, and suicide postvention. Required under DC Law 14-56.
*Required every 2 years - if you did not complete last year, you must complete for SY25/26*
Task 3: Dyslexia Awareness Modules (Estimated time to complete = 90 - 120 minutes.
Required as part of DC's Addressing Dyslexia and Other Reading Difficulties Amendment Act of 2020. Online module is intended to help DC Prep staff understand the characteristics and identification of dyslexia, gain awareness about characteristics and indicators of dyslexia and reading difficulties, learn about universal screening tools, and learn the components of Structured Literacy and evidence-based practices for supporting students with dyslexia and other reading difficulties.
Task 4: Read Employee Manual (Estimated time to complete = 25 minutes)
Task 5: Read Family Handbook (Estimated time to complete = 25 minutes)
Task 6: Special Education Cooperative Special Education 101 Course (Estimated time to complete = 45-90 minutes)
